A study was done in<br />
the early 2000&#8242;s by the <a href="http://www.nichd.nih.gov/news/releases/holidayweightgain.cfm" target="_blank">National Institutes of Health</a> that determined<br />
just that. They determined the following things about Americans:</span></span></strong></p>

<li><span style="font-size: small;">The average American gained 1.8 lbs from <strong>Thanksgiving to New Year&#8217;s Day</strong>.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: small;"><strong>Overweight and obese Americans</strong> before the holidays were more likely to gain <strong>5 lbs. or more during that 6 week period.</strong></span></li>
<li><strong><span style="font-weight: normal;">The biggest two factors in weight gain were</span> lack of activity<span style="font-weight: normal;"> and </span>excess hunger. </strong></li>
<li><strong>The weight that is gained at that time of year is</strong><strong> <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">never lost</span> </span><span style="font-weight: normal;">.</span></strong></li>
</ul>
<p><strong><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">The excess hunger at this time of year is most likely due to the excess amount of refined sugar and carbohydrates that people consume throughout the season. The </span>more of them you eat, the more hungry you will be every few hours<span style="font-weight: normal;">. These foods immediately spike insulin &#8211; the fat-storing hormone that will keep them out of fat-burning mode for up to 48 hours. These substances also causes individuals to feel lethargic which could explain why many are less active, lounging, relaxing, and overeating the holidays away.</span></span></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">So for each time that an individual consumes refined sugar and carbs, they will spend the next 24-48 hours in FAT-STORING mode. Doesn&#8217;t it make sense then that </span>daily consumption of sugar and carbs will result in some people actually spending every single day of the holiday season in FAT-STORING mode<span style="font-weight: normal;"> as opposed to </span>FAT-BURNING<span style="font-weight: normal;">. While experts agree that you should  not rely totally on fast weight loss, also commonly known as rapid weight loss, there are many people who do.  If you are interested in losing some weight, and doing it as quickly as possible, you will want to continue reading this post.</p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;">One of the best ways that you can go about creating a fast weight loss or rapid weight loss for yourself is by reducing the foods that you eat on a daily basis. When reducing your food consumption, it is important that you only reduce your consumption at a slow pace. Unfortunately, many people who want to obtain quick weight loss believe that they need to stop eating period, even if it is for two or three days. They go on a form of a “weight loss fast.” That is something that you do NOT want to do.  Once you start eating food again, you will likely gain every bit of your weight back, it seems it is almost automatic. It is also critical to say that starving yourself is not the greatest thing for your health either.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;">To go along with reducing what you are eating, it is advised that you dramatically reduce sweets or junk food that you have been eating. For rapid weight loss, you will want to completely get rid of an and all junk food from your diet, even if it is only for a short duration of time. This means that if you are hungry for a snack, you should reach for an apple instead of a chocolate candy bar or a big bag of potato chips. Apples are sweet and have sugar, yet they&#8217;re high in fiber so the sugar enters your blood stream much more slowly than chips and candy will which will help to keep your fat burning hormones active while keeping your fat burning hormones suppressed. Sugars from candy and junk food on the other hand will activate your fat storing hormones. So if you want to burn vs. store fat, cut out the sweets and treats! With any kind of sugar candy and other sweets containing a high amount of calories, you could see a good size drop in your calorie consumption, by eliminating them totally from what you eat daily.</span></p>
